This book was about a lazy bird and a kind elephant. Mayzie, the bird, has an egg and wants to take a vacation. She sees Horton, the elephant, walking by and askes him to watch over her egg. She says that she will come back soon but doesn't return. Harton goes through hard times but keeps the egg safe. When Mayzie finaly returns Horton again, the egg craks and out pops an elephant-bird. Horton leaves and he lives a happy life.
The moral of the book is that you can't get good things by doing nothing. This book also teaches us to keep promises. These books by Dr. Seuss are good for kids because they rhyme, are fun too read, and teach a lesson all at the same time. This book is great and I'm glad I read it.
